Delemere Forest Pathways

The forest provided an abundance of natural interest. A three mile loop of the lake with pockets and hidden pathways , revealing dark and deep areas of foliage.. invaded by speckled light . Such fascinating diversions from the main track where my on my regular journeys’ I saw and recorded in paint and pastel.. always new and beautiful views of the forest on the undulating path.

Besides the obvious beauty in the visual appearances before me.. I wanted, in my investigations, to capture the changes of form and colour .. and this was in direct response to the ever changing temporal elements of the day.. for example.. the hot sun inspired a Mediterranean palette.. of red / brown colours.. giving the pictures a combusting, burning quality.. other days the greens and blues prevailed to depict a sanguine.. pastoral response in my studies.

Then, after a sustained period.. I felt fuelled by the atmosphere and organic energy permeating the forest , which inspired me to create larger more liberated, expressive.. abstract pieces.. where my scope became seemingly endless .. limitless with this subject..
