Brian will explore the radical and extraordinary shift in mans thinking at the turn of the last century where developments in science, engineering and intellectual thought impacted on artists, giving rise to the creation of a new and controversial ‘modern art movement’.. which has been the source of a great debate since.
Important features in this Lecture will be:
The influence and legacy of Impressionism (re: later work of Monet.. and Cezanne’s contribution to this.)
Brian will :make the relevant connections during the remarkable period of growth in art and these other fields..(1900-1910).. to confirm Franz Marc’s statement:
“The art of tomorrow, will give form to our scientific convictions ‘
Brian will:
Outline.. how ‘new realities’ were formed from this , which gave inspiration and freedoms, hither-too unknown to artists to express themselves.. leading to the rapid creation of new movements and ‘isms’ in art , culminating in pure abstraction.
Brian will make particular reference to George Eiffel’s Tower as a spectacular ‘transmitter’ of modern thinking throughout Western Europe and the east.. where an acceptance for such art and the route it’s taken to current times , was paved.
