Art & The Absurd (But is it?)
For A Level Art Students and Sixth form students generally ( As part of enrichment learning)
Aims:
To unpack the perception of ‘radical’ Art and the claim that it is absurd. To further cultural understanding and appreciation of Art in all its forms in a contemporary society.
Features:
Brian will:
Outline some of the stereotypical views of the ‘Artist’
He will cite examples of the ‘Radical’ and Absurd’ By referring to:
The Turner Prize phenomenon.
Tracey Emin’s ‘Unmade bed’ Chris Ofili’s ‘Elephant Dung’
Carl Andre’s ‘Brick Installation’
And other controversial examples.
He will also refer to works from the past.
He will challenge the worth of this ‘Art ‘ as: Absurd, disruptive and offensive to society.
Or:
A valid and necessary tool in the advancement of modern thinking in society.
A plenary will be included..
